Inspect Before Modifying

The safest first step in an evolving codebase is usually understanding the current state before changing it.

Engineering provenance

Derived from project work

This knowledge is connected to project records in the Lab, keeping ideas traceable to engineering work.

  • Astra ↗

A modular developer QA and automation engine with explicit subsystem boundaries and a compatibility-tested core.

  • VAJRA ↗

A local-first, model-agnostic autonomous engineering runtime built around durable runs, trusted execution and independent verification.

A change made against an imagined architecture is often worse than a small change made against the real one.

Inspection should establish the current code, Git state, documentation, existing tests and actual constraints before implementation begins.

The practical loop is:

inspect → implement → verify → review → checkpoint

It is less exciting than rewriting a system, but it produces fewer surprises.
